{"id":6884,"date":"2026-02-16T13:55:11","date_gmt":"2026-02-16T17:55:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/crickethofmuseum.org\/?p=6884"},"modified":"2026-02-16T21:18:10","modified_gmt":"2026-02-17T01:18:10","slug":"mark-azeez-nominated-to-class-of-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/crickethofmuseum.org\/hi\/2026\/02\/16\/mark-azeez-nominated-to-class-of-2026\/","title":{"rendered":"MARK AZEEZ NOMINATED TO CLASS OF 2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"et_d4_element et_pb_section et_pb_section_0  et_pb_css_mix_blend_mode et_section_regular et_block_section\" >\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"et_d4_element et_pb_row et_pb_row_0  et_pb_css_mix_blend_mode et_block_row\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"et_d4_element et_pb_column_4_4 et_pb_column et_pb_column_0  et_pb_css_mix_blend_mode et-last-child et_block_column\">\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"et_pb_module et_d4_element et_pb_text et_pb_text_0  et_pb_text_align_left et_pb_bg_layout_light\">\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"et_pb_text_inner\"><p><strong>Mark Azeez<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1072 N Wilton Pl; Los Angeles, CA 90038<\/p>\n<p>Tel: 1 (323) 533 9969 \u00a0Email: mandmautoctr@yahoo.com<\/p>\n<p>My cricket career began at age 13 while attending High school in Guyana.\u00a0 I relocated to California, USA at age 21 in 1969.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1970<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Wicket keeping duties and opening batter, Hollywood CC.\u00a0 Historically, Hollywood CC is recognized as one of the earliest cricket club in the USA.\u00a0 A club that was home to the Expatriate British Movie stars.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1975<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Participated as one of a group of roaming cricket pioneers, playing cricket matches in a 500 miles radius from Los Angeles, Santa Barbara and San Francisco at the northern most end of California.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1980<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Administrative involvement and contributions began earnestly.\u00a0 \u00a0I was elected treasurer of the newly formed Association of Cricket Umpires of Southern California (ACUSC).\u00a0 I served in this position for 4 years.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1990 \u2013 1995<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Elected Vice President of Hollywood CC, and captain of the 2<sup>nd<\/sup><\/li>\n<li>Worked with others to promote cricket match between Hollywood actors and Virgin Airline celebrating the inauguration flight to Los Angeles.<\/li>\n<li>Awarded Lifetime membership and inducted into Hall of Fame of Hollywood CC.<\/li>\n<li>I initiated and founded the Hollywood Golden Oldies Cricket Club.\u00a0 Tour matches arranged in England, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, Mexico, Hawaii, Hong Kong, Fiji, Costa Rica, and El Salvador.<\/li>\n<li>Assisted with the formation of the Los Angeles KRICKETS, a team comprising members of the Los Angeles Homeless Communities. Funds were raised to take the team on a 5-match tour of England.<\/li>\n<li>Arranged demonstration of the sport of cricket, with the assistance of the KRICKETS team, to a Mormon community in Utah.<\/li>\n<li>Organized friendly cricket match between the ICC World Champions, Sri Lanka, and the Los Angeles KRICKETS team.<\/li>\n<li>During the gang related violence, I worked with a group to introduce cricket to the deprived community with the aim to socializing and controlling behaviors of the rival gangs. Our efforts promoted peaceful interactions within the community.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>1996 \u2013 1999<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I volunteered and assisted with coaching and introduction of cricket in Los Angeles School, working with Dr. Tony Verity, Cricket Hall of Famers Leo Magnus, and David Sentance.<\/li>\n<li>I worked with others to organize fundraising drives to benefit and promote cricket in Los Angeles low-income communities.<\/li>\n<li>I worked with an organizing group to promote an Australian \u201cA\u201d v. India \u201cA\u201d international cricket match at Woodley Park, California.<\/li>\n<li>Working with others, I promoted a cricket match between a Jamaica IX, featuring former Test Cricketer, Jimmy Adams and former Jamaican National team player, Hopeton Barret. The home team was a California Select IX.<\/li>\n<li>Promoted a Memorial cricket match involving former test cricketers Roy Fredericks, Lance Gibbs and S.
