Ajith Bhaskar Shetty is a prominent cricket administrator based in New York, deeply committed to promoting and developing the sport across the United States.
Background
Born and raised in Mysore, India, Ajith earned his degree in Computer Science from AIT University before moving to New York in 2006. His early years in Chikmagalur and professional experience in Bangalore nurtured both his technical foundation and his lifelong passion for cricket. A dedicated all-rounder, he played competitive cricket for over 25 years before transitioning into leadership and development roles.
Cricket Leadership
Ajith served on the USA Cricket Board of Directors from 2018 to 2022, where he co-chaired the Cricket Committee and played a key role in securing ODI status for the organization in 2019. He also chaired the Strategy and Membership Committees, leading a major membership expansion from 700 to more than 20,000 members nationwide.
In New York, Ajith is the president of the Commonwealth Cricket League—the state’s largest cricket league, with over 2,000 active players — and the New York Tennis Ball Cricket League (NYTBCL). He is also the founder of the NY Tennis Ball Cricket League, which started with 24 competitive teams.
Key Achievements
Ajith has played an instrumental role in advocating for new cricket infrastructure, including the establishment of two pitches at Eisenhower Park, and supported New York’s first Cricket Bill in partnership with Senator Kevin Thomas. He is passionate about youth development and has organized numerous coaching camps, school cricket programs (including at Hicksville High School), and teacher training sessions.
He has been awarded by the State, city, and county for his leadership and for community services.
Ajith has served as a liaison for ICC and led the Anthem Kids segment during the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup. His continuous efforts have made a lasting impact on the growth and visibility of cricket in New York.
