Ali Akbar, a prominent figure in the world of cricket, with a legacy that transcends both playing and coaching. Pakistan born and raised in the heart of cricket culture in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Ali’s association with cricket spans over four decades, reflecting a profound dedication to the sport. His journey began on the cricket fields of the UAE, where he donned the national colors with pride and distinction, representing his country UAE for more than 10 years. He has participated in Two prestigious ICC World Cup Qualifiers and Two Asia Cup Qualifiers for UAE Cricket team, and he has played Austal Asia cup from UAE side in Sharjah. Represent UAE Masters in over 50s World Cup 2023 in South Africa and has been played 2 ODIs against Pakistan A team.
Following a stellar playing career, Ali seamlessly transitioned into coaching, driven by a fervent desire to impart his knowledge and experience to the next generation of cricketers. Drawing from his rich experience on the field, he brings a unique perspective to coaching, emphasizing the importance of technique, discipline, and mental resilience. As a coach, Ali is revered for his ability to inspire and mentor players, instilling in them the values of teamwork, perseverance, and sportsmanship. Ali has been certified as a Mini Cricket, Level One, and Level Two Cricket Coach by Cricket South Africa. His Unique Cricket Academy (UCT) stands as a testament to his commitment, serving as a nurturing ground for aspiring talent and a beacon of excellence in cricket development. Ali is also a certified umpire of Grades A B C D with 90+ marks in each grade in 1998/99, and the first person from UAE to have taken coaching and umpiring courses at that time. Cricket South Africa offered a 6- month first-class season for umpiring followed by an international debut.
Ali’s influence extends beyond the boundaries of conventional cricket, as evidenced by his remarkable foray into Lawn Bowls. A two-time participant in the Lawn Bowls World Championships, Ali showcased his versatility and sporting prowess on the global stage, earning accolades and admiration for his skill and tenacity. Ali won the 2013 Bowls Championship in the UK.
In addition to his coaching endeavors and Lawn Bowls achievements, Ali remains an active participant in the cricketing community, representing the Over 60s World XI cricket team. His inclusion in this esteemed lineup underscores his enduring passion for the game and his continued pursuit of excellence, regardless of age or circumstance.
